Next Stop: San Francisco, California

I don't exactly know why, but my photos aren't uploading on my blog which is extremely frustrating! Find a scrambled version of some pictures at the bottom of the page (also updated scrambled pics for my Begas blog too). My formatting has also gone very dodgy, I can't do much about this until I get home unfortunately so sorry!! I also managed to remember my password to my blog yay!

Friday 8th September

We got up and headed straight to the airport to fly fo San Francisco!

Okay, so when we got to the hotel, they put us in the tiniest box room I have ever seem, and expected 2 people to stay in a 3/4 bed! It was disgusting!

There were no drawers or anything to put your clothes in etc, it looked like a backpackers hotel where you would stay for 1 night! My mum complained and got a room with 2 double beds and a set of real drawers... what we would have expected to begin with.

We had a walk around and ate at Mel's Drive In diner. Well, we have never felt so intimidated in our lives, it's not even hat bad walking through Bradford city centre at night. There were homeless and severely mentally ill people whom needed a hospital and proper treatment, not to be chucked on the street. It's sad really!

To cheer us up, we went to the cheesecake factor for a big slab of cheesecake!
Needless to say, traumatised and tired, we headed to bed.

Saturday 9th September

We awoke and got a cable car down to Fishermans Wharf, which was a novelty in itself!
Fishermans Wharf is a nicer part of San Francisco. We're staying to the right side of Union Square on 7th street which isn't the best part of town!

We got off the cable car and header to the market, it was a lovely market with plenty of opportunities to eat some free fruit - we all needed it haha.

Then, we wandered over to pier 39, where we ate at a place called "Chowders". Now i'm not sure how well y'all know San Fran, but it's famous for it's sea food and Clam Chowder with a Sourdough bread bowl. My aunty Di and Mum ate the chowder, which was surprisingly very nice! It was like a soup!

My Dad and I had fish and chips which were lovely!
On the pier we managed to find a shop dedicated to my fellow lefties! There were some pretty cool left handed gadgets in there!

After our day down at the wharf, we jumped on another tram which funnily enough was from Blackpool, U.K!

After our little ride on a tram from my least favourite place in the UK, we headed back to Union Square and kept our heads down walking back to the hotel. We had a chilled out evening with Vodka, diet coke and pringles before bed.

Sunday 10th September

Today was the day, after watching films and documentarys, we were going to Alcatraz!
We rode a cable car down to pier 33 which was where we were boarding for our boat to Alcatraz.
But first of all, we stopped and "In N Out Burger" for some food, it was lovely but i'm going to turn into a blumming burger!

For anyone whom doesn't know what Alcatraz is (I had never heard of it until we booked San Fran)! It is a little mile and a half wide rock just off the bay of San Francosco. It was once an ex millitary base, before becoming a federal prison.

If you broke the rules, you went to prison. Break the prison rules, you went to Alcatraz.
I highly recommend anyone to watch the film with Clint Eastwood called "Escape from Alcatraz". It is an amazing film, and it is about 3 men whom planned this whole escape and did incfact escape Alcatraz prison!

Alcatraz was meant to be inescapable. To this day they do not know if they escaped, personally I think they did! Considering a 10 year old swam from Alcatraz to the bay in a yearly swim contest the city hold.

It was honestly the most incredible experience, seeing where the prisoners ate, slept and spent their very little free time. We even got to see the cell in which Al Capone spent a few years! Which was quite surreal really!

The prison shut down in 1963 (the same year the 3 men escaped) because it was too costly to run, and the sea salt was eroding the buildings and it was generally dangerous.
I kid you not, on this island there are thousands of flies! It was a joke, so if anyone is planning on going TAKE A FLY SWATTER!!!

Funnily enough, there is a row of cells in the prison named Broadway, and the clock at the end of the corridor is called Times Square haha! There is no resemblence to the real deal haha.
It was quite chilling to look at the breathtaking views a mere few metres away from the prison cells. Rumour has it that on the likes of New Years Eve, the prisoners could hear the laughing and fireworks from the bay!

We spent around 4 hours on the island until we had to get the last boat back, we didn't even get to see it all! I definitely need to go back!

Oh, i forgot to mention that we had the privelidge of meeting an ex prisoner from Alcatraz. He was thrown out of prison for bad behaviour and straight to Alcatraz. He created forged notes and pay cheques. When we asked him whether he thought the 3 escapee's got out safe he simply said "yes", says it all really.
After Alcatraz, we made our way back to to Union Square on a cable car which was an experience in itself haha! We dodged all the gangs until we made it safe and sound back to the hotel.
Monday 11th September
We had a day today on the hop on hop off buses!
The first stop we went to San Francisco Dungeons which was fantastic - highly reccommend! And then we went to Madam Tussauds which of course is average as ever.
We then hopped back onto the bus and stopped at the other side of the golden gate bridge! The views were stunning!
After taking a few photos we went to Sosolito which was only about 10 minutes away from the bridge but it was a damn sight nicer than the city (and hotter too)! There are 17 micro climates in San fran and that was the best one haha. We had a lovely ice cream before heading back on the bus.
We went for dinner to Loris Diner and shared 2 huuuge pizzas! They were delicious!!
Tuesday 12th September
We had another day on the hop on, hop off buses today.
First of all we caught the bus to the other side of the Golden Gate bridge and walked back to the other side accross it.
It's 1.7 miles long! But it only took us 40 minutes ish!

We went on a boat trip under the Golden Gate Bridge, not that I took much notice because I fell asleep haha!
Dinner was at Applebees and went on a night tour around San Francisco. San Fran is so small that all the bus tour loops seem to repeat the same information, we could now start our own tour company haha.
We played another game of trying to get home safe from Union Square... we made it.
Wednesday 13th September
Our last day in San Francisco. We went on the downtown loop and went to Ripley's Believe it Or Not - i've never been before but it was quite fascinating.
After Ripley's, we went to Lombard Street! The hill wasn't as bad as it looks to walk up, maybe that's because i'm used to the hills of Frenchwoods.
Afterwards, we went to the Ghiradelli Chocolate shop and bought some nice chocolate to eat on our other little boat trip which was similar to the one we did yesterday.
We also saw a US Navy submarine named Pampanito. It was astonishing how so many people could cram into such a tiny space!!!m
Here's my Dad modelling the doorways haha.

The Aquarium wasn't far away too, so we spent some time in there. The fish were so cute!!!
That little ray is even smiling for us haha!
We decided to go on another night tour as it was the only bus to take us back to union square. It was so cold I coulsn't wait to get back to Lori's diner for dinner!!!!
After dinner it was time to head back to the hotel to pack for LA woohoo!
Overall I found San Fran great. Some parts are really beautiful but honestly, not my favourite place. I probably won't go back or not for a while!

If you made it this far... thanks for reading!!
