And so the adventure begins... again

Hello from New York City!!

I can’t believe it’s here again and finally time to go back to my Frenchwoods bubble! Second year is officially over!

Wednesday 30th May

Leila, Beth and I arrived at Manchester airport at around 10am, checked in and ventured to the escape lounge where we would have unlimited food and drink until boarding our flight. By 11.30am I had eaten breakfast, lunch and second lunch. It was well worth going in the lounge - definitely recommend.

Unfortunately we had to remove ourselves from the lounge to board our plane. Once we had boarded after being chosen for a random security check, there was a man sat in my seat all snug with my complimentary virgin airways blanket, pillow and earphones. He couldn’t grasp the idea that he was in the wrong seat, however once checking his boarding pass it was clear that he was actually sat in the seat 30 rows in front of his real seat haha. Once in our real seats, we got chatting to the man sat next to Leila and I who was so lovely! He was on his way to Minneapolis to complete a hike.

*side note* 10/10 for the Virgin Atlantic flight! Probably the best flight I’ve been on, and flying economy was a better experience than flying first class with Thomas Cook!

About 2 hours into our flight Beth was acquainted with the lady next to her as she was shouted at for talking to me for a whopping 5 minutes! It didn’t end there...

Once we landed at JFK, customs took around an hour and then we could finally collect our bags and head for our Super Shuttle bus. Whilst waiting for the Super Shuttle we got chatting to another lady whom had been waiting for an hour for her transfer to her hotel. She ended up being on our shuttle bus, and she was asking about what we would be doing in America. Once we told her we were doing AmeriCamp she was telling us how her friend did the same thing last Summer, and how he is now a manager at Costa. I’m not even joking when I say that we had flown half way around the world and met Robbie’s (yes my little Robbie!) friend from home! How bizarre!

It took FOREVER to get to our hotel, we landed at 3.50 and didn’t get to the hotel until after 8pm. The man at the reception was lovely and gave us free breakfast and a lovely room with a gorgeous view. We then dropped our things off and met a few people from French Woods at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. We had then almost been awake for 24 hours so we then headed to bed for a good nights sleep, only to be woken up at 4am to what seemed like Blackpool Illuminations in our room from a light spookily turning on in our room haha! We got up and went for our complimentary breakfast which was just down the street from our hotel and consisted of a bagel and a banana. Simple but lovely. We then just had a ponder around some shops as Beth and I had already done the things around New York we wanted to do previously.

Whilst we were walking around and shopping, it started raining and we got drenched. So it was safe to say that we just decided to give it up as a bad job and nap for the afternoon until Steph arrived.

Once Steph arrived, we got showered and ready for TGI Friday’s for a French Woods group meet up. By the time 10pm came around, we were all shattered so we headed to bed nice and early ready for Frenchwoods 2018!

Sorry this has been a slow post, we didn’t really do anything in New York this year!

My next post will be the camp orientation week!

Lots of love,
Jade xx
