Session 1: week 1

Hi guys sorry my blogs seem really rushed this year, and few and far between! I did upload an orientation week blog, but The WiFi at camp isn’t the best so I can’t access safari easily to share the link, and the app I used to use is currently not working the best.

Thursday 7th June

Today is the day the rest of the campers get here! I am so exited! We have another arriving from mine and Steph’s bunk last year, and the rest are from the bunk next door - so we know the girls. They’re all so lovely which is great knowing we’re going to have a fab first session. The day consisted of patiently waiting on the porch in the sunshine for our campers to arrive whilst we sent the others off to their theatre auditions. By dinner we had 9/10 campers and the last will arrive tomorrow. After dinner we helped the rest unpack and went to the camper orientation which let’s them know the activities French Woods offers. I think it was safe to say by the time 10pm came we were all so tired that we were just so ready for an early night.

Friday 8th June

The good old 6 minor day!

Today was strange because usually I walk around with the new kids in my bunk to help them get to each activity on time. But today I didn’t have.

Today was the first day I didn’t have to show my kids around as they’re all returners, so I could stay and help out in art all day. Our final camper arrived just after lunch and I whisked her off to audition for theatre before it was too late.

Evening activity was a night with Josh, and the theme was Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. Of course, at the end in true French woods style we sang Seasons of Love from Rent.

Although I was off duty, I spent my evening doing laundry which was as fun as my evening could get haha!

Saturday 9th June

The first day of our proper scheduled classes. I’m in jewellery all day pretty much which is nice and relaxing. I managed to phone home too which was lovely!

Evening activity was sports night! Not my thing honestly, but I spend the night running away from balls and attempting volleyball haha.

I got a nice early night again, I can’t believe how tired I am already!

Sunday 10th June

Another day in the French woods art department... and it was Tony awards night.

We all got dressed up and went on the red carpet to have our pictures taken before settling down with popcorn to watch the show.

I only watched an hour of it before I went back to the bunk to do my duty, but some people from French woods were there!

It was a nice early night again which was well needed.

Monday 11th June

A beautiful day teaching children the art of string friendship bracelet making... again haha.

Tonight was a different night for our bunk. Whilst the whole camp was playing Brain Wars, we got to go to a guy from camp’s beautiful house to make s’mores. We drove up there not long after dinner and we pulled up to this lovely little bungalow with heaps of land. The house is not far from camp, yet the atmosphere felt the polar opposite to the hectic buzz of camp - which was somewhat nice for a while.

We lit a camp fire in the garden and the kids started roasting marshmallows whilst Sam, Steph and I were in a vigorous chain of breaking the Graham’s crackers in half, then putting Hershey’s chocolate on one half whilst trying to pull the toasted marshmallow off of the stick with the other half. Once we repeated this about 10 times each, we were read a classical camp fire story about a creature called the Tajar. We then had milk and cupcakes on the porch before heading inside to chill out and watch some TV.

It was a really nice evening for the girls and us. We got back and I headed to the gym to burn off some of the s’mores I had inhaled before going to bed.

Tuesday 12th June

Today’s the day that one of my best friends and house mates (Amy), heads to camp 40 minutes down the road from me!!

After a regular fun day of teaching and sunbathing in my period off, evening activity was watching the staff talent show. I must say, the staff are genuinely so talented here! Even the kitchen staff!

After the staff talent show, it was time for the staff pool party. There was a gourmet food truck which came to camp, the camp fire was lit and there was music and the pool was heated! It was such a fun night! It was really nice to socialise. I attempted to play a little pool game of catch but just ended up flinching away from the ball every time... if there’s anything I’ve learnt so far, it’s that I am not made out for playing any kind of ball game haha.

Wednesday 13th June

Okay so today was a cold day. It was cold for me, but I’m always cold! Such a change from yesterday. In my hour off I managed to FaceTime my mum and dad which was lovely.

The evening activity was watching Jason Robert Brown - if you read my blogs last year you might remember us watching him last year. He was even better this year!

It was nice at night time to chill and catch up with some friends in the staff room before bed!

Thursday 14th June

Today was warm again, but very windy. In our period off, Dan, Sarah and I did the high ropes course! It was so much easier and less scary this time around. Although, I did hurt my back from my very graceful zip line experience. Apparently I just didn’t want to stop and banged straight into a wooden pole (and the poor zip line guy). It’s nice to do something fun in your period off.

It was meeting night, which meant a nice “earlyish” night!

Thank you for reading my first week blog! I really wish I could add pictures from this app!
