Monday 13th August

After 15 days, today is FINALLY lazy day woohoo!

We set off to Philadelphia at 9am. We had been looking forward to this day since our last day trip out of camp to Dorney Park. An entire 3 hours into the journey, the bus driver made an announcement that all major routes into Philly were flooded and someone should ring camp so he can take us somewhere else.

4 and a half hours later we were dropped off at America’s second largest shopping mall - King of Prussia. I was pretty excited for Philly and we will be going to a shopping outlet for our last lazy day to spend lots of money so I was a little gutted. There were lots of well known branded shops like Gucci and Victorias Secret. To top everything off, we ended up standing in a line a the Forever21 shop for 50 minutes due to there only being ONE server on! It just dampened our mood more.

Sarah and I ended up finding a lovely little pub where we managed to chill for an hour. It was only then that we realised how bad the floods were in Philly! People were being rescued from their houses and everything. From there we ended up going to the Cheesecake Factory. It was my favourite place to go for dessert in America last year! I tried tge Cinnabon cheesecake this time which was to die for. From there, we headed to the Melt Shop to grab a quick fresh sandwich before sprinting back to the bus. We didn’t give ourselves a chance to sit down and eat which was a shame.

It took forever to get back to camp and I was so ready for sleep. All in all it was a lovely day and we made the best of a bad job. It’s the people that make the day, not the place (shoutout to my fav’s Sian, Sarah & Beth).

Tuesday 14th August

Everything is always harder after a lazy day. You feel so much more sleepy, although I guess for us staff Lazy Day isn’t really lazy. We end up waking up at the same time if we go on staff trips.

It was a usual day in the art department, still as humid as ever.

This evening we watched our superstar camper in the first ever amateur production of Bright Star. The story line was really moving and the talent in the show was incredible.

Afterwards, Hannah and I went to he movies and watched Mamma Mia 2. I really don’t like Mamma Mia, but I absolutely loved the second one! We didn’t get back to camp until quite late at around 1.30am. After my 18 hour day, I was so ready for bed.

Wednesday 15th August

Another day at French Woods. Lots of ceramics and Mosaics and crazy hair day's by Sam.

Evening activity was brain wars which hasn’t been a thing for us since orientation due to us either having partys or it was too hot so we went to the pool. I always love a good Brain Wars!

Afterwards, it was my night off so I got to go to the country club just over the road to socialise which was nice. I even got to see my old school friend Mya whom is working at French Woods’ sister camp - Sports and Arts.

Thursday 16th August

Today was our last 4k race for the arts for the summer. Hannah and I both walked the race, we actually beat our previous time by about 3 minutes haha.

Friday 17th Augusy

Tonight we were so lucky to be able to watch the New York Pops perform alongside 2 broadway stars - both of which are French Woods Alumni. And thats not even the best part... some of my beautiful campers are so incredibly talented that they were able to perform alongside them! It was a lovely night even though the heavens opened throughout the concert!

Saturday 18th August

Today is the day everyone had been waiting for all summer... banquet!

The day went by as usual, ceramics and mosaics galore! Banquet is only short, it basically takes up dinner and rest hour, bit nevertheless is a lovely few hours.

I managed to get myself ready in my period off which is thankfully at the end of the day. I was then able to do some of my campers and co-counselors make-up.

It was a lovely few hours at banquet, it was a nice way to end our last proper weekend in the woods. We then went to the Pavilion to watch some awards be given out, and to watch troup night.

Sunday 19th August

The last lazy day! I can’t believe it! We set off to Woodbury Commons which is a premium shopping outlet in New Jersey. I so could have gone crazy in there let me tell ya. I managed to refrain and just buy myself a gorgeous Michael Kors bag and purse. Sian and Beth on the other hand... they bought the whole outlet haha! It was a great day and we had a final dinner at Applebees. We sadly had to say bye to Sian as she was flying home the next day. I have never cried so much over leaving someone, especially someone i’d only known 13 weeks! The strong friendships you can make in a matter of weeks is incredible.

I can’t wait to see you at the other side of the pond Sian (and the rest of the gang).
