New York City (x4??)

Saturday, October 20, 2018

I am so sorry this post is almost 2 or 3 months late. Since coming back, life has been a bit of a blur and it’s gone so quick that I completely neglected my blog! I always write little notes each day so that I can write everything into full sentences when I get chance. Apparently I just never got around to doing so!

I’m hoping I finish my Canada blog soon too! X

Monday 27th August

We woke up and headed to Times Square to catch the big bus to have a lovely ride around the city in the hot sun!

We managed to catch the uptown and downtown loop, safe to say we were absolutely sweltering! For some unbeknown reason, we decided to walk the Brooklyn Bridge in about 40 degree heat. We got some lovely photos but we could not wait to get a drink haha.

We headed to Ellens Stardust Diner for tea. Apparently I can’t go anywhere in the city without bumping into some lovely French Woods counselors! We saw some girls I worked with at camp in Ellens Stardust Diner! Anyone whom hasn’t heard of the diner, it’s basically singers whom want to be on Broadway but whilst they are waiting for their big break, they air waiters at the diner and break out into song! It’s fab and the food is great.

After the whirlwind of a weekend we had, we went to bed nice and early ready for another jam packed day and early rise to go to the 9/11 museum.

Tuesday 28th August

We woke up very early to catch the subway to the 9/11 memorial and museum.

It was super hot already by the time we got to the memorial. We had a walk around the memorial and just seeing the sheer amount of names on the memorials was just heart breaking. The memorials are square shaped and are in the exacts spots in which the north and south tower stood.

We then made our way for our guided tour in the museum. The museum is underneith the memorials, in the still standing foundations of the twin towers.

If anyone has the opportunity to go to New York City and get a guided tour of the museum. I 100% reccommend it. It was so heartbreaking to hear that some bodies are still being identified!

We spent all morning and a portion of the afternoon in the museum before heading out into the blistering heat.

We bought a New York pass from attraction tickets direct which enabled us to do 5 attractions in NYC. We still had a few left so whilst we were in the area, we decided to go to the Statue of Liberty. We have already been to the Statue, and i’m not too sure any of us were bothered about going, regardless, we went. But what a mistake. It was soooo hot, we were so lethargic and just wanted air conditioning! It seemed ridiculous really, having the opportunity again to see a world famous landmark and all we wanted was air conditioning!

We then headed back uptown to go up the Empire State building. Although I only went up the Empire State last year, it’s always fabulous to see the breathtaking views. Although, this time it wasnt as much of a memorable experience as it was absoloutely rammed and the staff were so rude! We didn’t spend long up there because it was so hot, and there were far too many people.

Once we got back down to the street’s of Manhattan, I turned the corner and there were my friend from camp whom I saw last night at the diner again! It’s crazy in such a huge city that you can bump into familiar faces!

We made our way back to Times Square to go to Junior’s for cheesecake before heading to our all time favourite fresh food shop “The Food Emporium” for tea, which was a block away from our hotel. The salads there are to die for! Cheesecake and salad... it’s all about the balance right?

Wednesday 29th August

We had a nice sleep in this morning before having a nice walk to the Rockefeller centre. What a much better atmosphere  than the Empire State! I honestly prefer the view’s and the Rockefeller in general. It’s much more spacious!

Afterwards, we headed onto 5th avenue for a spot of shopping. I got a lovely necklace from Tiffany’s and some lovely things from Pink. We walked around some more before grabbing our last m&m McFlurry of the holiday (American m&m’s and mcflurry’s are the best!!).
We went to Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square for tea which was lovely, before heading to “The Ride”. The Ride is a bus which takes your around certain tourist hot spots, and you are sat sideways in a glass sided bus. There are also hosts on board and lots of street performers involved. It was so much fun!

Thursday 30th August

Today we woke up and headed tp JFK airport to fly to Buffalo where we would be met by my Aunty Di’s pen friends family from St Catharines in Canada where we would be staying for the next 6 days.

Once we landed in Buffalo (it’s crazy that we literally flew an hour and we were still in the same state!) we were met by our friends and we drove about an hour across the border to Canada to St Catharines. It was so surreal that we were finally here!!

Once we arrived, we unpacked and we finally got to see my Aunty Di, Morgan, Kim, Chris and Bryn. The beer chicken was on the barbecue and the Tanqueray Gin was cracked open, and we had a lovely night just sat outside having a good laugh!
